Sorry for the late notice, but there will be a trip to the Petite Nation tomorrow, likely park-and-play and not a river run. Please meet at the pumphouse at 8:45AM, with an expectation of being back by 2PM (depending on Poutine stop). The water level is 37, so it's not huge water as far as PN goes, but it's a great play spot and the canyon should be runnable for those who are inclined. The water is cold so make sure you have cold water clothing. Please email (info at ottawariverrunners dot com) if you have questions about the trip. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sparse attendance! Just Doug and Roger in slalom boats. Level was ~37 ( http://quebecwhitewater.com/en) which was not huge but still lots of fun for park-and-play. Glorious weather. Waves at bottom of canyon fun and did a couple of canyon runs catching many eddies. Still some challenges trying to surf across. Not too rocky at all. Entrance to canyon was via left side (sweeper log was gone luckily) with right side probably being too low. Right side waves above kayak school were at a decet level, although not as much fun as at higher levels. In general level actually very good for beginners and cadets, and regret not having tried to organize a cadet/beginner trip.

We are planning a return trip to the Petite Nation (North of Papineauville, about 1 hour from Ottawa) this coming Saturday, May 1st. This will be a park-and-play, not a river-run, so no shuttle required. The water level is in the 30s which should make the canyon suitable for experienced kayakers, and the waves and channels below the canyon at a great level for the cadets and more novice youth and adult kayakers. There are some good play spots, surfing waves, and opportunties for practicing ferries, etc. The water is still somewhat cold, so bring cold water gear. If you need gear then please email ahead of time, and we'll see if we have any club or other gear to lend. Meet at the PH at 8:45, and we'll aim to be back around 2PM. Of course don't forget the poutine and/or milkshake stop at our favourite spot on the way back. Please email me if you are interested in coming. We'll keep an eye on the weather forecast and reserve the right to cancel if the weather doesn't look great! This Saturday, July 3rd, we will be doing an Ottawa Main Channel River Run. This will be suitable for beginner/intermediate paddlers (that means you Open Sessioners) as well as more advanced paddlers. Beginner/Intermediate paddlers can portage the larger rapids, and leaders will be there to provide guidance (and rescues!).
The plan is to meet promptly at the pumphouse at 8AM. Email if you wish to make alternate meeting arrangements; one west end stop might be possible. Remember to bring a dry-bag packed lunch, suncsreen, and appropriate clothing for coolish water and a whole day on the river. We'll be back for supper or will stop for junk food. RSVP to info at ottawariverrunners dot com. Cheers, ..Roger

We are planning another river run this Saturday July 10th meeting at the pumphouse at 08:00 and should be back by supper time. Plan is to run the main channel of the Ottawa as an advanced beginner intermediate run. Open to anyone who has a good wet exit and is comfortable doing the occasional swim (although rolling is always the better option). Further info contact Doug dougsy at magma dot ca.

dateSat, Aug 7, 2010 at 4:12 PM subject Last minute... Ottawa River Run Tomorrow! Hello, I am heading up an Ottawa River Trip - Main Channel tomorrow. Sorry for the late notice, I just decided to go this afternoon, so here is the invite. I will be departing from the West end with my family, so anyone who needs into the bin for equipment borrowing should get in touch with me tonight. This trip is suitable for intermediates, please ask if you are not sure if you are the right level. I would rather say 'no, not a good trip for you' than have someone come and have to portage every set. Meeting Spot: The Ottawa River Put-In at 11:00 am Cheers! -- Alison Smedley ORR Summer Programs Committee www.ottawariverrunners.com

from ORR Notice
date Mon, Jul 12, 2010 at 11:42 PM subject Ottawa Main Channel River run this Wed afternoon/evening
We are planning another river run this Wed July 14th, meeting at the pumphouse at 12:45 and we will be back in the evening with a likely fast food supper stop. The plan is to run the main channel of the Ottawa as an advanced beginner intermediate run, which means depending on the group makeup, we may walk some rapids. Open to anyone who has a good wet exit and is comfortable doing the occasional swim (although as Doug says "rolling is always the better option"). At the moment, I know that there will be at least a couple of younger cadet paddlers on this trip. If you need to go the pumphouse to pick up boats, and since there is no parking during the day at the pumphouse, we will need to drive west from the pumphouse to another area of town, to park any cars not coming on the trip. Please contact me to make any other possible meeting arrangements. RSVP, or just reply to this email. Please do make an effort to reply and not just show up, so that we can detemine the group make-up and figure out rides. Thanks, ..Roger
